The United States Model 1852 Naval "Cutlass" Saber is patterned after the French Infantry Sword of 1845. This sword was widely in use from 1850 to 1870's and used in the Civil War by both the North and South Sides.
The United States Model 1852 Naval Officer's sword differs only slightly from it's Army counterparts. This sword very closely resembles the "Foot" Officer's and the "Staff & Field" Officer's Swords of 1850. The major difference being the distinct naval motif. Most notable on the Navy model is the presence of a "dolphin's" head on the quillon finial at the tip of the upper guard.
This quality reproduction features a polished metal sheath with brass accents, a solid brass handguard with the letters "USN", a wire wrapped pommel with simulated shark/rayskin design and a sword blade intricately decorated and etched. The etching in the blade is deep enough to feel by fingernail, and finely detailed. Comes with a sword bag.
